BAGUIO CITY, April 17 (PIA) – – Fire prevention and ensuring safety in every household and community needs the cooperation of everybody, even the young ones.

 Thus, the Bureau of Fire Protection Cordillera Regional Office headed by Regional Director SSupt. Maria Sofia Mendoza, in partnership with SM City Baguio, engaged school children in Kiddie Fire Safety Roadshow at the SM Mall Atrium last Friday.

 Around 170 pupils from various public and private elementary pupils joined the roadshow where they were introduced to firefighting techniques, fire suppression equipment, fire exit drills, confined – space evacuation drills, handling ropes and knot tying, rappelling and basic life support.

 There were also fun activities such as coloring, photo booth and learning session on warning signage, safety practices and disaster preparedness.

 BFP mascots Berong Bombero and Berang Bombera   joined the fun and learning activities, while the BFP – CAR band and personnel  provided modern and cultural intermission numbers, including showcasing the various BFP Unit uniforms.

BFP chief, Fire Director Leonard Bañago, the guest of honor during the roadshow, congratulated BFP – CAR for initiating such fire safety advocacy activity as he highlighted the importance of engaging every sectors of society in the country’s fire prevention and safety campaign.

 “I encourage everyone to be more aggressive and persistent in our campaign for a fire safe and fire – free nation. Let us continue to make more people mindful on how their actions can contribute to fire safety,” he said.

Bañago also expressed the BFP’s gratitude to SM for their continuing support to the government’s fire prevention and safety advocacy campaign.

BFP and SM Corporation have signed a memorandum of agreement for a partnership in fire prevention and safety advocacy activities which SM hosts in   its various malls nationwide.
